Commander Keen: The Mystery of Isis II - History

History of Isis II - As written by Geoff

On the 9th of September, 1998, I received an email, from a guy called DML1000. He informed me of a game engine he was developing, codenamed "Wormiantor". I downloaded the alpha test of this engine, and was amazed.

The Wormiator

His engine was very similar to the Keen4 engine, although it had many improvements. Things like 256 colours, parallexing background (with weather effects, like rain and snow), underwater swimming, and translucency and transparency. This had great potential for a Keen style game, so soon enough, I sent DML1000 a set of Keen sprites, to import into the engine, to see what it would look like. Soon enough, we had Keen running around in a new environment (the environment of the Worminator game). Once we saw Keen running around again, we now had motivation to really go for it, and create a new Keen game.
