News & Updates
January 05, 2023

Can you believe it? After nearly 20 years there has been an update to cc314! Thanks to the efforts of Grandy02, Commander Keen for the Game Boy Color now has a complete Enemies and Items page as well as an updated Game Info page that includes an illustrated ending section.

These new updates were actually completed and accessible in September, but it took me until now to finally make this post. Thank you, Grandy02, and sorry I took so long!

January 10, 2005

This shall be my last least for a few years. I don't know what will happen to cc314 while I'm gone. Most likely nothing. Perhaps eK and Cho'gall will move it, or give it up and pass it along to someone else. Whatever happens, I won't be here to see it.

My e-mail has been disabled, I will not be checking it. Don't bother sending me e-mail, you will get no response. I hope all of you out there continue to love and cherish the unquenchable childhood spirit that is represented by Commander Keen; the spirit that speaks to the Peter Pan in all of us.

December 14, 2004

Ha! For the first time in years, an update on Keen's birthday! On December 14, 1990, Commander Keen Episode 1: Invasion of the Vorticons was released to the public. Happy 14th birthday Keen! It's also good to note, the Goodbye Galaxy series was released on December 15, 1991, so happy birthday to that too.

Well, there's no real update so...go away.

December 04, 2004

I finally got around to properly updating the 3D Models from David Wilson, and found another (old) piece of 3D Art from xtraverse that had fallen through the cracks long ago. Check them both out at the drawn/3d fanart page. I've also changed the game manual pages in the game info section, and so now the manuals should load about twice as fast for our friends that still have slow-speed connections (and look nicer, to boot). In other news, spring cleaning is finally done, with all the banner code up to date...not that it seems like it of course.

November 12, 2004

Another tiny update. For some reason, when doing the last tiny update, I didn't add a link to a great keen site: Keen Galaxy. Definately check it out!

That big-ish update's still scheduled for sometime this month...

November 6, 2004

Tiny update. David Wilson was cranky that I haven't put up some 3D-models that he sent a few weeks ago, so here they are (Anim8or file format). Real update coming sometime this month.

September 3, 2004

A fairly small update, but proof that cc314 isn't dead yet. What I have for you is a new fanart by LinkDragon, and a revised links page. Check them out!

An interesting note, one week from today (Friday) will mark the fourth year since eK, Cho'gall, and I finished the re-design of cc314. We might not be too active on this site, but we're still very active on the Public Commander Keen Forum, so come visit us!

March 15, 2004

Time for your monthly update...I got some great, heavily Japanese inspired fanart by RocketJess, check it out! Also, for those of you that wanted to play the awesome Bazooka Wowbagger mod, but ran into memory problems, a new download has been added to the mods page which should solve your problems (it makes the Spearsicon a little smaller).

February 27, 2004

Alrighty. I got some awesome fanart for you guys. Check it out! Also a new Keen 4 level dealeo, and some new links.

That's all.
Go away.

January 31, 2004

Un petit update...some new fanarts by David Wilson and a revised e-mail address for David Booth.

January 7, 2004

Happy New Year! Anyways...a HUGE update. It's a whole new section. Check out Game Info! Now. This is the last update for a long be happy!

December 22, 2003

Don't expect this to become the norm...there will be at most one more update before another great slump. Anyways, it seems Cho'gall added Ilsoap's keen mod to the mods page. In lieu of this, I added my Dangerous Dave minimod to the mods page. Check them both out!

December 15, 2003

Break in school = new update. So I got two things for ya: new 3D fanart from David Wilson, and I've also uploaded a scanned version of the Keen 6 manual for those who are of these days this place is going to get a minor renovation. That's about it long for another three months...maybe next time I'll actually get around to uploading some great mods and cleaning out the links section.

September 25, 2003

Hey dere brocket. I got a great new fan level for ya'll...deviously difficult. It's in both the fan levels section and the links section. I also made a supercool minimod...but I'm too lazy to upload it right now.

July 30, 2003

First of all, KeenMaster's fanfiction's been updated again. Next, we have a new featured link. Finally, and best of all, we have our first fan-made Keen 5 level! Enjoy it all.

June 25, 2003

Quicky update. New version of CKPatch. Get it at the downloads page.

June 9, 2003

Thanks to Forge's prodding, I finally updated the finished version of the fan-fiction that was made by the Commander Keen community a few years back. It's even worse than I remember. :)

June 7, 2003

Huge update today, cleaning out my inbox. New featured link, definately check it out.

A batch of rediculously impossible levels, from Grelphy and Dagneilius.

An excerpt of a fanfiction by KeenMaster.

Finally, I hear Cho'gall updated the mods page.

ADDED LATER: I also added my Commander Keen FAQ to the encyclopedia's everything else section.

March 29, 2003

Three more levels from Glephy, including two for the oft-overlooked Keen 2! You know the link.

February 22, 2003

We've got two new levels today, both from newcomer Grelphy. Check them both out at the levels page! Also, Cho'gall's been dropping hints that the official music page will be updated soon, with an explosion of new midis (see where they come from, here)...look for new stuff coming soon!

February 8, 2003

Second-hand smoke can kill you. Marijuana impairs your judgement. Winners don't use drugs.

So I've updated the links page, removing dead links, and adding Grelphy's page (today's new featured link).

'Tie Your Own Rope! Tie Your Own Rope! Tie Your Own, Hey!'

January 2, 2003

It's 01/02/03 today (assuming you use the American ordering of the date)!

Anyways...quick update for you today. Added a new music to the Official Music Page. It the Bloogwater Crossing music from Aliens ate my Babysitter!, resequenced by Xky Rauh. I also added some new links to the links page. Check it all out!

December 30, 2002

Hey! We updated! First off, happy new year everyone!

About two months ago, David Booth sent me a hilarious fanart. It took me this long to put it on the site, so I felt bad and made it the splash-screen image. You can also check it out at the Drawn Fanart page. Also, the levels page has been changed slightly.

I think that's it for major updates...explore and maybe you'll find more!

Also, we missed Keen's birthday (as usual)! Commander Keen 1 was released December 14, 1990. Happy 12th birthday Keen!

September 21, 2002

Another Commander Keen mod, by Xtraverse this time, is available at the Mods page. This is very exciting!

Because of my summer vacation, I haven't been able to regularly update the Fangames pages lately. From now on, however, things are going to get a lot more speedier. New projects were added today, and all valid submissions should now be listed after two weeks at the latest.

August 3, 2002

The making of ModKeen by Andrew Durdin has enabled Keen fans to make total remakes of the Keen games using the Keen 1 engine. If you want to find out how, visit our new Editing Keen page. KeenRush and Xky Rauh have already made two great ones. Get them at the Mods page!

July 22, 2002

June 1, 2002

I've updated the levels page with an excellent new level from BlueBounder. I've also reviewed some of the previously "untested" levels and packs. Check it all out at the levels page!

May 8, 2002

There's a new level up at the levels page. The one from Valerio, try it out, it's a good one. Also the stats4all counter has been updated (like you care).

Well we have another great utility from Andrew Durdin! ModLatch is a utility that allows you to modify Keen 2 and 3 tiles in any bitmap editor! How easy can it get? Check it out!

January 31, 2002

Another Update! This should be the last one for a while though...
The Old CC314 site has finally been finished, with all the downloads now working perfectly!
Also the All-You-Can-Eat Commander Keen has all its downloads working as well (except for the OS/2 icon. But that's not my fault, bother Joe about it).

January 29, 2002

Wow, another update already!
The Links page has been updated, and we've archived All-You-Can-Eat Commander Keen and Robin's Commander Keen Page so that they may live forever!

January 24, 2002

Well, there's been a bit of an update today. The enemies pages Keens 5 and 6 have been updated, and we finally have ChargingMoose's Keen 4 level up (the first Keen 4 level ever)!

January 2, 2002

Happy New Year everyone! It's now 2002!
Not much for updates, but we got a flash new stats for all counter at the bottom of the index screen. Click it and see how little traffic we get.

September 12, 2001

I'm sure you all know what happened yesterday. It's just plain sick. I offer my condolences to anyone who's friends or relatives were casulties in this attack.
Here's some quotable Bush. I can't say anymore myself.

Today, our fellow citizens, our way of life, our very freedom came under attack in a series of deliberate and deadly terrorist acts. The victims were in airplanes, or in their offices; secretaries, businessmen and women, military and federal workers; moms and dads, friends and neighbors. Thousands of lives were suddenly ended by evil, despicable acts of terror.

These acts of mass murder were intended to frighten our nation into chaos and retreat. But they have failed; our country is strong.

A great people has been moved to defend a great nation. Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shattered steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve.

America was targeted for attack because we're the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world. And no one will keep that light from shining.

Today, our nation saw evil, the very worst of human nature. And we responded with the best of America...

Our first priority is to get help to those who have been injured, and to take every precaution to protect our citizens at home and around the world from further attacks.

The search is underway for those who are behind these evil acts. I've directed the full resources of our intelligence and law enforcement communities to find those responsible and to bring them to justice. We will make no distinction between the terrorists who committed these acts and those who harbor them.

I appreciate so very much the members of Congress who have joined me in strongly condemning these attacks. And on behalf of the American people, I thank the many world leaders who have called to offer their condolences and assistance.

America and our friends and allies join with all those who want peace and security in the world, and we stand together to win the war against terrorism. Tonight, I ask for your prayers for all those who grieve, for the children whose worlds have been shattered, for all whose sense of safety and security has been threatened. And I pray they will be comforted by a power greater than any of us, spoken through the ages in Psalm 23: "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me."

This is a day when all Americans from every walk of life unite in our resolve for justice and peace. America has stood down enemies before, and we will do so this time. None of us will ever forget this day. Yet, we go forward to defend freedom and all that is good and just in our world.

Thank you. Good night, and God bless America.

END 8:35 P.M. EDT

Good-bye for now.

Well I have two Commander Keen GBC reviews for you. The verdict? An average sidescrolling game (at most).

Andrew Durdin's Review
GameSpot's Review

June 1, 2001

I finally got around to adding a Keen Fanfiction I've had sitting on my computer for a while. It's: A Delirious Ending to the Beginning by Neil McRae. It's pretty good (as Keen Fanfics go) though I have one question...What happened to Roger Wilco?

May 29, 2001

In case you didn't know, Commander Keen for the Game Boy Color was released on the 17th of this month. Unfortunately as of yet there are no reviews from that we know of. We'll get them posted as soon as one is available e-mail me if you have a review of your own you'd like linked to or posted.

until later times...

May 16, 2001

Well, I finally got around to updating the site. Some new fanart from Xky (though they may not be as orthodox as usual).
Also: Happy 16th Birthday to me! (Yesterday)

April 23, 2001

Great news for those keen on the new CGB Keen game. It's gone Gold. For those of you who don't know the jargon, that means Nintendo has okayed it for mass production and you can therefore expect it on shelves in as little as a week, but probably between one and two weeks from now.

This also means that as soon as the game hits stores, cc314 will have an interview with one of the game's creators, Associate Producer at David A. Palmer Productions, James Palmer.

Visit Activision's Commander Keen CGB site.

April 23, 2001

Hmm...Lots of Updates today! New Fanfic, New ASCII art, and Two New Links!

April 21, 2001

Wow! You can now edit Commander Keen 4 levels using the TED5 level editor! Check the levels page for information about how to do this. If you're curious, visit the 3DRealms message board where this procedure was discovered..

April 15, 2001

Images of the Keen 6 enemies are finally available, and new games have been added to the fangames section. Keep'em coming!

Additionally, the top bar now works with any frames-capable browser, not just IE.

April 6, 2001

New Fanfic! This one took a long time coming, but it's finally here! It's a new story by Saitulaa Naranong. Check it out here!

Nothing much more to say here...but hey! Keep visiting!

March 1, 2001

New interview! That's right kiddies, We have an interview with Geoff Sims. Geoff was the guy who started cc314 many moons ago. I also was able to talk with James A. Palmer, who works for David A. Palmer Productions and I gleamed a bit of information off of him about the Keen Gameboy game. Hoepfully I'll be able to interview him before the game ships. Here's what he told me: The game is 99% done. So expect it to ship much sooner than we thought, and if you would like to talk with the fine folks over at David A. Palmer Productions email them here. I'll try to get an interview with him as soon as the game goes Gold. (Which means the game is done, and is off to the publishers, in this case Nintendo)

The interviews are in the encyclopedia section, go have a looksee.

Also, I found an interview with the guys working on Anachronox (Tom Hall's new game) and in it Tom is asked what he thinks of the new keen game and he said, "kinda weird they are doing new levels. Ah well. It is their business property...." Not much there, but still worth noting.

Finally, I found a scan from Nintend Power magazine on "Keen Information" run by forge. Go visit his site now to look at the pic. It's large and blurry, but it looks pretty good. I'm sort of disappointed in the detail of the art but that could be due to the gameboy color itself or the quality of the scans. Oh, and I don't like keen's shirt color, but I'll survive.

March 1, 2001 did an interview with Todd Hollenshead about the Commander Keen Gameboy game currenty in production. You can read it here.

I've also done some research about David A. Palmer productions and I have a list of at least some of their previous games:

Men in Black: The Series 2
Gex: Enter the Gecko
Gex 3: Deep Pocket Gecko
Sydney 2000

Here's their website. It appears as though they both develope both Gameboy games and professional music software. If I find out more I'll be sure to keep you updated.

March 1, 2001

Todd Hollenshead, CEO of id software just posted a press release in his .plan file confirming that Commander Keen will be making his way to the gameboy color. Here's a snippet from his .plan file:

"Commander Keen marks a return to id Software's roots -- developing over-the-top, comic book-style adventure games for kids.  Based on id's original Commander Keen series on the PC, Commander Keen finds precocious 8-year-old superhero Billy Blaze on an all-new quest to save the world from his alien adversaries, the Droidiccus, Shikadia and Bloogs of Fribbulus Xax."

The game will be developed by David A. Palmer and will be published by Activision.

February 16, 2001

Yahoo!!! The links page is done.
You know what that means? CC314 is officially open for business!
Thanks for waiting so long...I know we didn't expect it to take this long when the project was started September 10th, 2000.
Anyways, this is not the end! We have a few more tricks up our sleeves, but you're going to have to wait a while to see 'em :)

February 10, 2001

Whew, it's been a while.
If you'll notice we've got everything working now with the exception of the links page, that'll hopefully be up very soon.
On a side note, the new product that's in develpment, Return to Castle Wolfenstein is looking awesome, but time will tell I suppose.
If anyone knows how I can really compress gifs, give me a holler.
Not much more to say...later peoples. Thanks for caring.

December 29, 2000

Alrighty, we have a somewhat massive update for the levels section. Some new Keen 2 levels, a new Keen 1-3 editor, an update to Snaily's Level pack loader and some fixes to mistakes made by me (Flaose). Enjoy all.

December 14, 2000

Commander Keen has turned 10!
That's right, 10 years ago today Apogee released Commander Keen Episode 1: Marooned on Mars to the gaming public. 3D Realms (the as now name of the company formerly called Apogee) has an article (written by the 3D Realms webdude: Joe Siegler). Check it out: Commander Keen is 10!.

November 8, 2000

This is very important, and I urge everyone to read this if you haven't already at the message board.

We've already had our site plagerized. Someone took our site and made it their own just like a bunch of people did to Geoff. Let me issue a warning, right here, right now, to anyone who's thinking of doing this to us. We're looking into the illegality of stealing our site. If we catch ANYONE stealing our site or taking our art without permission we will issue a warning and if that warning isn't heeded we will do whatever we can to remove the site and punish you for what you've done. If that means we have to go through the judicial system of whatever country your in, so be it. I know this sounds harsh, but we can't sit idley by while people make our hard work their own. This is despicable, and we can't let it happen.

November 8, 2000

Well there's quite a few updates today. Geoff Sims, the original owner of this site, was kind enough to send us the missing maps so the map page is complete, and there's a new level pack ready for download! More updates coming soon, as well as THE OFFICIAL GRAND OPENING OF THE NEW AND IMPROVED CC314!. Enjoy all.

October 21, 2000

Well if you're reading this, I guess we've finally opened the page up to the public. It's still not finished, so bear with us. If you wanna relive the past, you can go to The Old CC314 Page. Most downloads don't work, but hey! There's a price to pay for nostalgia. Either way, enjoy your stay!

September 10, 2000

Well, as you can see cc314 has been redesigned! If you didn't know cc314 was first designed by Geoff Sims something like 4 years ago. About a year ago it underwent an overhaul and then exchanged hands to Thea Gregory who maintained it for about a year before handing it to us. Flaose, Cho'gall, and I have been part of the community that surrounded this site and have helped with different aspects of the site numerous times. It's great to be part of such an important site and to be able to make that site even better. As of writing this the site isn't done yet, in fact, this is the first page we've done other than the main one.
